We’ve had a fantastic start to our time in Reception, and the children are starting to settle in and learn our new routines.

This week, we began our phonics sessions and have enjoyed playing ‘What’s in the Box?’ and starting to learn new phonemes (sounds) and graphemes (letters).

We also shared the book Super Duper Me, which helped us think about how we are all different but all super in our own ways! The children made their own paper dolls, carefully choosing colours for hair, eyes, and clothes to represent themselves.

To help us get to know each other, we’ve been playing a fun game called Bug in a Rug, which has been enjoyed by everyone! It’s been a lovely way to learn everyone’s names.

We also had an exciting discovery in the garden—a stripy caterpillar on one of the horse chestnut trees.

The children were fascinated and enjoyed observing it closely, noticing its colours and how it moved. We’ll be keeping an eye out in case it comes back!
