Last Thursday, Miss Allen was delighted to spend the afternoon with our brilliant Year 2 pupils during their computing lesson. The theme of the day? Learning how to become fantastic photographers!

We began by discussing what makes a good photo. The children reminded themselves to:

• Hold the device steady
• Aim carefully
• Always ask permission before taking someone’s photo

We then explored the difference between portrait and landscape orientation. Year 2 learned when each style might be more suitable and practised switching between them while photographing each other. They made thoughtful decisions about which orientation worked best and explained their reasoning with confidence.

Next, we headed outside to explore the school grounds through the lens of a camera. The children captured images of nature, buildings, and playground spaces, deciding whether portrait or landscape was the better choice for each shot.

To finish, we took on a photography challenge! Children predicted which orientation would work best for a variety of subjects, took the photos, and then evaluated which looked better. Their creativity and critical thinking were fantastic to see.

It was a joy to watch Year 2 engage so enthusiastically with the lesson. With their growing skills and keen eyes, we may well have some photographers of the future in our midst!
