This week, Year 2 Maple Class stepped into the spotlight (literally)! Our Computing lesson was all about exploring how light affects photographs, and the children were absolutely buzzing with excitement.

💡 Let There Be Light!

We began by discussing how light can change the way a photo looks. The children were fascinated to learn that the same object can appear completely different depending on the lighting e.g. bright sunlight, soft shadows, or even coloured lights. We looked at examples of photos taken in different lighting conditions and talked about how they made us feel. Was the photo warm and cheerful, or mysterious and moody?

Then came the best part—getting hands-on! Armed with tablets and a selection of objects, the children became mini photographers. They experimented with taking photos in different parts of the classroom: near the window, under the desk, and even using natural light (the sun) on the playground.

To wrap up, we reviewed our photo gallery and talked about what we noticed and used a numerical system to evaluate our photos (scores out of 10).
