Over the past two weeks, Rowan Class have been busy discovering the wonders of Autumn. We’ve been learning all about shadows, noticing how they grow longer in Autumn, and had great fun using torches to create shadow shapes with our bodies and toys. We also had some fantastic junk modelled torches – some excellent design skills thinking about how to use tissue paper to make different coloured lights.

Our pumpkin exploration has been very popular! The children practised their fine motor skills and hand-eye coordination by hammering into pumpkins and reaching into the slimy, slippery insides to pull out seeds. We also worked on our pincer grip, which is important for handwriting, by using hole punches to cut shapes from colourful Autumn leaves.

We’ve learned about UK animals that hibernate and went on a hunt around the EYFS area to find pictures of dormice, bats, frogs, hedgehogs, and adders. Well done Rowan for your excellent hunting skills!

To finish off, we’ve been retelling the story of Hop the Hedgehog. Mrs Hart and I were so impressed with your expressive actions and confident voices. You brought the story to life beautifully!
