This week in Year 3, we’ve been busy combining our grammar skills with our history learning and the results have been fantastic!

We started by exploring apostrophes for contractions. These clever punctuation marks help us shorten words when we’re writing informally. For example, do not becomes don’t, and we are becomes we’re. We had fun matching contractions with their original word pairs and spotting them in everyday writing.

Then, we put our new knowledge to the test by writing informal letters to our friends and family. These were all about our imaginary school trip to Skara Brae, the fascinating prehistoric village we’ve been learning about in history.

We imagined walking through ancient stone houses, seeing where people cooked, slept, and stored their belongings thousands of years ago. Our letters were full of excitement, curiosity and of course, lots of contractions to make our writing sound friendly and chatty!

We’re so proud of how our writing is improving and how we’re using what we learn in grammar to make our stories and letters even better.
