This week in Art, Year 3 got messy in the best way possible! We’ve been learning how to use charcoal to show movement in our drawings, inspired by the expressive work of artist Laura McKendry. Her art helped us see how smudges, lines, and bold marks can bring still images to life.

We discovered that charcoal is a very smudgy material (our hands proved it!). But instead of seeing that as a problem, we used it to our advantage. By smudging and layering, we created the effect of objects moving. 

Today’s challenge was all about drawing large. We took tiny objects from around our classroom, like sharpeners, pencils, paper clips and even a few cheeky desk pets! We turned them into giant charcoal masterpieces! It was amazing to see how something so small could become the star of a big, bold artwork.

We’re so proud of how creative and adventurous everyone was.
