Year 1 have explored how to use a number line to help them to subtract. They talked through a clear method, using strategies of ‘first, then and now’ to understand subtraction problems.

After practising the method together, they played a fun subtraction game. They rolled a dice and raced our partners from 10 down to 0 on the number line. It was a great way to make subtraction exciting and interactive while reinforcing understanding of counting backwards.
