This term marked the exciting formation of our Eco Council! Children from each class put themselves forward and were voted in by their peers to represent their classmates and help make our school a greener, cleaner place.

Woodland Warriors in Action

While the sun was still shining, our Woodland Warriors teamed up with Guy and his team to care for the Woodland Walk. They worked hard weeding, tending to shrubs, and preparing the area for the colder months ahead. A huge thank you to everyone who helped keep this special space looking beautiful!

Litter Pick Mission

The Eco Team, alongside Miss Allen and Toby, carried out a site-wide litter picks. Toby regularly keeps our grounds tidy, but the children were surprised by the types of litter collected. They fed back to their classes about the importance of keeping our school grounds clean and litter-free.

Living Streets Walk to School Challenge

At the start of this half term, we launched the Living Streets Walk to School Challenge. Our aim is to reduce parking congestion, be kinder to the planet, and keep ourselves healthy by encouraging as many children as possible to walk to school. We began by surveying how pupils currently travel to school. Each day, our Eco Leaders – the ‘WOW Ambassadors’ – log how children arrive.

We are thrilled to announce that in November, 128 badges were awarded to children who chose a greener, healthier way to travel to school. Well done to everyone taking part!

Energy Saving Initiative

With the help of Toby, our Site Manager, the Eco Team explored ways to reduce energy use in school. By switching off non-essential lights, we can cut down on energy consumption and costs.
Our KS2 leaders worked with Toby to label light switches:

• Green stickers = essential lights
• Red stickers = non-essential lights

We’ll be monitoring this more closely after Christmas, especially as the days get brighter and lighter!
