What an amazing start to our Hinduism unit! Our Year 4 children have been diving into the meaning behind the AUM symbol, one of the most important and sacred symbols in Hinduism.

We began by learning that AUM represents the sound of the universe and is deeply connected to Brahman, the ultimate reality or supreme spirit in Hindu belief. The children discovered that AUM is not just a sound but a symbol of everything that exists.

To deepen their understanding, we explored how AUM links to the Trimurti, the three main gods in Hinduism:

• Brahma – the creator
• Vishnu – the preserver
• Shiva – the destroyer

Each part of the AUM symbol reflects these ideas, and the children worked incredibly hard to draw the symbol in their books. Around the outside, they recorded their learning and thoughts about AUM, Brahman, and the three gods.
