In this unit, Year 6 explored character, viewpoint and voice through imaginative writing. The children stepped into the shoes of well-known fairytale villains and wrote postcards as if they were sending messages home from prison.

They focused on:

• Writing in role
• Using colloquial and informal language
• Developing character voice
• Making deliberate choices about tone and vocabulary

The children considered how a villain might justify their actions, complain about prison life or hint at future plans. Their postcards combine humour, creativity and thoughtful language choices.
