This week, Year 3 had a fantastic Forest School session that truly put their teamwork, creativity and problem‑solving skills to the test.

Working in their house teams, the children were set an exciting challenge: to build a den that was big enough for the whole team to fit inside, strong enough not to fall apart when shaken, and well camouflaged within the natural environment. With these clear criteria in mind, the teams eagerly got to work.

Before building began, Mrs Collett introduced the children to a new and very important forest skill: the timber hitch. This special knot is used to safely and securely attach rope to trees, and the children listened carefully as they learned how to use it correctly and responsibly.

Each team was provided with a selection of equipment including tarpaulin, rope, clips and bungee cords. Using these materials, the children planned, built, adjusted and improved their dens throughout the session. There was fantastic collaboration on display, with children sharing ideas, problem-solving together and supporting one another to overcome challenges.

By the end of the session, the forest was full of impressive dens – some so imaginative that they even featured TVs and WiFi! The creativity and enthusiasm shown by all of the teams was wonderful to see.

Well done to every group for their hard work and teamwork. A special congratulations goes to the Red Team and Blue Team, who built the winning dens. They demonstrated excellent building skills, strong communication and outstanding teamwork throughout the session.
