In Dragonflies the children have been pretending to write letters and post them to their friends and family. Mark making is where early writing truly begins. Those first scribbles and swirls may seem small, but they help children build the strength, control, and confidence they’ll later use for writing letters and forming words. As they experiment with crayons, chalk, paint, and even water on outdoor surfaces, they start to understand that their marks can represent ideas, stories, and feelings.

One of the children’s favourite activities is writing letters and posting them. They love creating their own “writing,” folding their paper, adding stamps, and posting their messages in the class post box. This simple routine gives their mark making a real purpose and helps them see writing as a meaningful way to communicate. Every mark they make is a step forward.
