Friendship Poems
This week in Year 3, we’ve been exploring a wonderful story called My Strong Mind. The book teaches us how we can stay resilient, positive, and calm, even when things feel a little tricky. We talked about how everyone faces challenges sometimes, but we can all learn strategies to make our minds stronger!
How Do We Build a Strong Mind?
Together, we shared some brilliant ideas about what helps us when we feel worried, cross, or overwhelmed. Here are just a few of the strategies we came up with:
- Taking deep breaths
- Counting to 10 slowly
- Doing something creative, like drawing or painting
- Getting cosy with a good book
- Going outside for some fresh air
- Talking to a friend or trusted adult
The children had so many thoughtful suggestions and listened to each other beautifully! We also discussed what it means to be a good friend, and how friendships make us feel. Our class said that good friends help us feel:
- Happy
- Safe
- Calm
- Excited
- Valued
- Important
We shared some lovely examples of things we enjoy doing with our friends:
- “I like building Lego with my friend because we work as a team.”
- “I like drawing pictures with my friend.”
- “I like playing football together at lunchtime.”
- “I like reading with my friend because it makes me feel relaxed.”
- “I like helping my friend if they are stuck.”
Using all our ideas about resilience, positivity, and friendship, we turned our thinking into rhyming poems! Every child worked incredibly hard and we loved listening to each other’s poetry and celebrating everyone’s creativity. Year 3 should feel very proud of themselves!
