Last week, Poplar Class had an incredible time celebrating World Book Day! The classroom was bursting with colour, creativity and characters as we all dressed up as our favourite storybook heroes. Everywhere you looked there were witches, wizards, Dr Seuss creations, Roald Dahl favourites, and so many more wonderful costumes

But the biggest surprise of the morning?
Miss Rowlands had mysteriously vanished… and in her place stood a GIANT pink crayon! Pink Crayon stomped into Year 3 announcing that they were fed up of being used only for crossing out mistakes. Pink dreamt of being used for dancing flamingos, dazzling sunsets and beautiful flowers. Anything but scribbling errors!

So Pink Crayon quit.
And Year 3 had a mission.

The children got straight to work writing persuasive letters to Pink, encouraging them to return to the classroom colouring drawer.
Many of us tried flattery… and luckily, it worked! Pink Crayon agreed to come back, thanks to some thoughtful, apologetic and wonderfully persuasive writing. Take a look at some of our letters below and see how we convinced Pink Crayon to give Year 3 another chance!

In the afternoon, we worked in groups to perform a section of the poem The Sound Collector. Some of us chose to use dramatic voices, actions or even sound effects to bring the words to life. The performances were brilliant and full of energy! Inspired by this idea, we then created our own poems. But instead of a sound collector, we imagined a Colour Collector who stole all the beautiful colours from our world. The children’s ideas were imaginative, expressive and full of vivid vocabulary.

Overall, we had a fantastic day celebrating World Book Day in Poplar Class. We loved sharing our favourite stories, admiring everyone’s incredible outfits and diving into activities that brought books, poems and creativity to life. Our photographs from the day will soon be decorating our classroom book corner!
