This week, our Year 2 children proudly became designers, makers and storytellers as they created their very own animal puppets. The project combined creativity with new practical skills, and the results were fantastic!

Planning Their Designs

Before picking up a needle and thread, the children spent time carefully planning their puppet designs. They thought about:

• Which animal they wanted to create
• The shapes and features they would need
• The colours and materials that would bring their animal to life

Their design sheets were full of imaginative ideas – from bushy‑tailed foxes to shy hedgehogs and bright‑eyed owls!

Learning to Sew

Next came the making stage. The classroom was full of excitement (and a little concentration tongue‑biting!) as the children began to sew their own puppets. For many, it was their first experience holding a needle, and they showed amazing perseverance and care.

They learned:

• How to thread a needle
• How to join two pieces of fabric with simple, neat stitches
• How to add details like ears, eyes and whiskers

Each stitch brought their designs a little closer to their final woodland friend.
