This week in Latin, Year 6 immersed themselves in the legendary world of Hercules, using classical language to explore one of the most famous myths of the ancient world.

Their focus was the Twelve Labours of Hercules, and pupils had great fun retelling key moments using authentic Latin vocabulary. Pupils were challenged to replace selected English words with Latin ones. Year 6 also explored Latin adjectives to describe Hercules’ childhood and heroic qualities. They used vocabulary such as: magnus = big and optimus = best.

This lesson offered pupils the perfect blend of storytelling and language learning. By retelling a well‑known myth through Latin vocabulary, students deepened their understanding of the language’s structure, roots, and relevance – while also enjoying the drama and excitement of Hercules’ adventures.
