Today’s Year 2 PSHE Jigsaw lesson was bursting with excitement as the children finally had the chance to create, taste and evaluate the healthy snacks they designed over the past week. This moment had been building for some time, and the anticipation in the classroom was clear from the start of the day.

Once the children were presented with their ingredients, the room became wonderfully focused. In place of chatter, there was a calm silence broken only by quiet sounds of enjoyment as pupils sampled their creations. It was a lovely reminder of how powerful hands-on learning can be, especially when linked to health, independence and personal choice.

After tasting, the children sketched and labelled their chosen snack with impressive attention to detail. They then wrote thoughtful evaluations describing the flavours, textures and their overall experience. Their reflections showed not only their developing vocabulary but also their growing ability to think critically about the food choices they make.

A particular highlight was the bravery shown by several children who stepped outside their comfort zones to try a new food. Watching them take that small but meaningful risk, and then beam with pride afterwards, was a moment worth celebrating.

Well done to all of Year 2 for embracing today’s activity with enthusiasm, maturity and curiosity. It was a pleasure to see them learning in such an active, joyful way.
