In today’s art lesson, pupils were introduced to watercolour painting. We began by watching a demonstration by artist Emma Burleigh, focusing on how she uses water and brush control to create different effects.

Pupils then explored several techniques, including wet-on-wet and dry-on-wet application. They observed how paint spreads on wet paper, how colours blend, and how varying the amount of water changes the intensity of the pigment. Children also experimented with using the brush in different ways, such as turning it upside down to create alternative marks and textures.

This session helped pupils understand how watercolours behave and encouraged them to experiment confidently with new artistic methods.
