The Dragonflies had a delightful hands‑on experience this week as they created their very own fruit skewers for snack time. With a colourful selection of kiwi, orange, grapes, strawberries and blueberries, the children explored a variety of textures, smells and colours while preparing something they could proudly enjoy afterwards.

This activity supported so many early developmental skills. As the children carefully threaded each piece of fruit onto their skewers, they strengthened their fine motor control and hand–eye coordination. Many of them chatted about the shapes, colours and tastes of the fruits, helping to build their language and communication skills. They also made simple choices about how many pieces to use and what order to place them in, giving them early experiences with counting and pattern‑making.

One of the most meaningful parts of the activity was the independence it offered. The Dragonflies loved being in charge of their own creations, selecting their fruit, concentrating on the process and taking pride in the finished result. Preparing their own snack gave them a real sense of achievement.

Once their skewers were complete, the children enjoyed eating them together. Some tried fruits they don’t usually choose, while others were excited to show friends the colourful combinations they had made. It was clear how much they enjoyed both the process and the reward.

The Dragonflies should feel very proud of their delicious, healthy creations. It was a simple activity that offered rich learning opportunities and plenty of joy.
