Thanks to a rumble of thunder overhead, Year 5 headed inside and turned week four of Forest School into something wonderfully creative. Instead of heading out to the woods, the children gathered together and channelled their teamwork, focus, and imagination into making beautiful Hapa zome prints.

Hapa zome (the Japanese art of “leaf bashing” ) became the perfect indoor adventure. Using leaves, petals, and natural materials collected earlier in the day, the children carefully arranged their patterns before gently hammering the colour into fabric. The results were vibrant, detailed, and full of personality.

What stood out most was how well the children collaborated. They shared materials, helped each other position their designs, and celebrated every print that emerged. Even though the weather kept us inside, the spirit of Forest School (curiosity, creativity, and connection) was alive in every moment.
