Year 2 have been absolutely delighted to receive letters from their pen pals at Rayner House. This special partnership began earlier this year, when Mrs Precious-Li arranged for the children to start writing to residents, creating a wonderful opportunity to connect with the local community. 

There was great excitement in the classroom as the envelopes arrived. Opening a real envelope and discovering a letter inside was a truly special moment for the children. In a world where so much communication is digital, it felt particularly meaningful to experience something so personal and tangible.

The children were especially touched to see how many of the residents had hand-written their letters. It was clear that a great deal of time, care and thought had gone into each one. This made the experience even more special, and the class spoke about how kind and thoughtful their pen pals had been.

After reading their letters, the children enjoyed sharing them with their peers, talking about what had been written and finding out about their pen pals’ interests. It was a lovely way to develop speaking and listening skills while building a sense of connection and empathy.

We are now looking forward to writing our replies and continuing this meaningful correspondence. The children are already beginning to plan what they would like to say, and we hope to send thoughtful letters back very soon.

This has been a truly rewarding experience for Year 2, and we are excited to continue building this special link with the residents at Rayner House.
