Year 1 have had a wonderfully creative Art Week exploring wax crayon rubbings and textured collage.

The children began with a leaf and pattern hunt around school, looking closely at the different textures they could find on leaves, tree bark, bricks, and playground surfaces. They were excited to discover how many patterns are hidden in everyday objects and enjoyed choosing which ones would make the most interesting rubbings.

Back in the classroom, they experimented with wax crayons, noticing how different pressures and colours changed the effect as the patterns appeared through the paper. Once their rubbings were complete, the children carefully cut around each shape, building a bank of textured pieces ready for their artwork.

They then arranged and layered their cuttings to create a vibrant, detailed collage full of colour, pattern, and creativity. It was a brilliant week of exploration, imagination, and artistic skill.
