Today in science, Year 3 began their exciting new topic: Rocks and Fossils! We kicked off our learning by exploring a variety of different rocks.

Using our observation skills, we looked closely at each rock and created word banks full of brilliant adjectives to describe them. Some rocks were smooth, others bumpy, some shiny, and a few were rough. We discovered that rocks come in all shapes, sizes, and textures. We know we can describe rocks as natural materials which make up the Earth beneath our feet!

To help us look even closer, we used magnifying glasses and carefully drew observational sketches of the rocks. Everyone took their time to notice the tiny details, and the drawings were fantastic!

This lesson was a brilliant start to our journey into the world of rocks and fossils. We’re already looking forward to finding out how fossils are formed and what they can tell us about the past!
