Last week, Year 4 have swapped their school shoes for explorer hats as they dive into the sunny world of Sicily, Italy’s largest island!

In our Writing lessons, we are working on writing an exciting Holiday Brochure. The children spent a lesson researching the fascinating Mediterranean destination so they can create their very own holiday brochures. 

The classroom has turned into a mini travel agency, with maps, books and tablets at the ready. The children researched and explored:

• Where Sicily is – using atlases and Google Earth to spot the island just off the toe of Italy’s boot.
• Famous landmarks – like the ancient Greek temples in Agrigento and the fiery Mount Etna volcano.
• Local food – from cheesy arancini to sweet cannoli, they’re discovering what makes Sicilian cuisine so special.
• Wildlife and nature – including dolphins, flamingos, and butterflies that live in Sicily’s beautiful landscapes.
• Festivals and traditions – learning how Sicilians celebrate with music, dancing and colourful parades.
