Safeguarding
At Tudor Grange Primary Academy Yew Tree, we are committed to providing a safe, secure, and nurturing environment for all our pupils, staff, and visitors. Safeguarding is at the heart of everything we do, and we take our responsibility seriously to protect children from harm and ensure their well-being. Children are taught and offered support to keep themselves safe, to develop positive and healthy relationships and to avoid situations where they might be at risk, including being exploited by others.
We follow statutory guidance and adhere to the principles outlined in Keeping Children Safe in Education and other relevant legislation. Our safeguarding practices include:
- Clear Policies and Procedures: We have robust safeguarding and child protection policies that are regularly reviewed and updated.
- Designated Safeguarding Leads (DSLs): Our trained DSLs are available to respond to concerns promptly and effectively.
- Staff Training: All staff receive regular safeguarding training to ensure they can identify and respond to concerns appropriately.
- Partnership Working: We work closely with parents, carers, and external agencies to promote the welfare of every child.
- Safe Recruitment: We follow safer recruitment practices to ensure all staff and volunteers are suitable to work with children.
The academy has a statutory responsibility to share any concerns it might have about a child in need of protection with other agencies and in particular police, health and children’s services. Schools are not able to investigate concerns but have a legal duty to refer them. In most instances, the academy will be able to inform the parents/carer of its need to make a referral.
However, sometimes the school is advised by Children’s Social Care or police that the parent/carer cannot be informed whilst they investigate the matter. We understand the anxiety parents/carers understandably feel when they are not told about any concerns from the outset. The academy follows legislation that aims to act in the interests of the child.
