This week, Year 3 had an amazing trip to Thinktank Science Museum, and we were all super excited from the moment we arrived! It was a fantastic day filled with curiosity, teamwork and lots of scientific thinking.

Forces and Friction Workshop

Our day began with an exciting Forces and Friction workshop. We became scientists as we went fishing using magnetic fishing rods! We carefully tested which fish were attracted to the magnet and learned that some metals are magnetic, while other materials are not.

We also explored friction using a cube with six different materials on each side. By testing how far the cube travelled on each surface, we discovered that:

• The more friction acting on an object, the slower it moves, the more drag there is and the shorter distance it will travel.

Year 3 did a brilliant job explaining their scientific thinking!

Exploring the Science Garden 

Next, we visited the Science Garden, which was a firm favourite! We loved exploring all the interactive stations, including:

• Making water shoot at a target,
• Running on a giant hamster wheel,
• And hoisting ourselves up into the air using pulleys.

Everyone had a fantastic time learning through play and exploration.

Discovering Thinktank 🦖🤖

We also explored different floors of Thinktank, where we:

• Searched for and identified different fossils,
• Interacted with futuristic robots,
• And discovered lots of fascinating science along the way.

There was so much to see and do!

Spectacular Light Show 💡

To finish the day, we enjoyed a brilliant light show. We recapped our learning about light sources, reflectors and shadows. One of the highlights was using shadow puppets to tell a story, which was great fun and showed excellent creativity.

A Day to Be Proud Of 🌟

Overall, we had an amazing day being scientists. Miss Rowlands was extremely proud of everyone’s behaviour and how positively Year 3 represented our school throughout the visit.
