Acorn children have taken part in an experiment called ‘Message on a Banana.’ They all had a go at mark making on a banana with a cocktail stick, they then predicted what might happen to the banana over time. We then observed the changes that took place throughout the day. The children noticed their marks turned brown and they could see them much more than before. The children were fascinated to see how the colour of the banana changed as their invisible message turned brown.

Science Fact – When you poke the cells of the banana skin, the cells release a chemical called polyphenol oxidase, which reacts with oxygen and creates a brown colour. Why don’t you have a go at home?
