This week during our Art lessons, Year 5 have created their own piece of artwork inspired by Wayne Thiebaud’s use of cakes. The children first sketched a cake with a slice cut out of it. They had to think of how to draw this in to make it look realistic, including shadows. Next, they decided on the design of their cake. Finally, using oil pastels, the children added colour to their cakes. Like Wayne Thiebaud, they used exaggerated colour choices which made their artwork bold and colourful.

Miss Allen thinks that they are stunning, particularly when they are displayed together with the variety of contrasting colours.
