This half term in Science, we have been learning about Sound. This week, we made our very own String Telephones using paper cups and pieces of string.

Miss Beacom asked us to investigate whether it easier to hear what your partner was saying with or without the string telephone. We also had to investigate the difference in sound when the string was tight compared to when to when it was loose.

We noticed that the sound travelled better with the string telephone. This is because sound energy can travel far easier in the solid string telephone, so the sound of your voice is louder over the same distance than it was in the air.

The sound was also stronger when the string was tight. When the string was loose, it was a softer sound. We learnt that this was because more sound was absorbed by the loose string, so it was harder to hear.
