This morning the children in Sycamore shared their Snowman stories with the children from Reception. First Miss Allen read the story ‘The Snowman’ by Raymond Briggs to all of the children. Year 5 needed to watch carefully to look at how Miss Allen was reading to make sure they read to their partner in the same way, with prosody (expression). Miss Allen pointed out the pictures and asked the children questions and this is something Year 5 would then do with their reading partners. We then paired up and shared our stories. Miss Khosla was so impressed by the quality of the writing and illustrations in Year 5.

The children enjoyed listening to the stories. Here are some of the comments made by Reception:

‘I liked it in the story when he made the snowman.’ – April

‘The pictures were really good!’ – Willow

‘I really liked all of Ruben’s story.’ – Rosie

‘I liked how Aysel read her story with prosody.’ – Poppy

‘Jackson’s handwriting is really neat!’ – George

‘I liked it when the snowman and the boy were flying.’ – Louie

It was a lovely opportunity for the children in Year 5 to share their hard work. Here are some of their thoughts about the session:

‘I enjoyed reading my story to Quinn.’ – Esme

‘I getting a 5 star review from my partner!’ – Logan

‘I liked that Poppy was asking a lot of questions about my story.’ – Aysel

‘My partner was surprised when I told her that I had written and drawn all of the pictures!’ – Lina

‘I liked reading to my partner as she enjoyed it. She listened well.’ – Dolcie

‘I enjoyed reading with my partner as he was really focussed. He said he really liked my drawings.’ – Louie

‘I liked getting a 9 star review from my partner.’ – Kian

Miss Allen and Miss Khosla were really impressed with how the children worked together. What an enjoyable morning!
