This half term our Science topic is ‘Earth and Space’ and we are really enjoying learning about our Solar System. We have made a 2D model using cardboard and split pins to show how the Moon orbits the Earth whilst the Earth orbits the Sun. We can use our models to show that the Earth spins on its axis whilst orbiting the Sun. It takes 24 hours for the Earth to spin on its axis. The Sun is positioned in the middle of our Solar System. We will soon be learning more about how the Moon rotates around the Earth and the different phases of the Moon.

We have also explored the planets in our Solar System. We used the iPads to research key factual information about the different planets. We needed to select information carefully. Once we had researched our information it was time to present our facts. We needed to order the planets in the Solar System. One way of remembering is to use an acronym. My Very Easy Method Just Speeds Up Naming will help you to remember the order of the planets.

As you can see from the images below we took incredible care in producing our planet fact files and ordering the planets. Miss Allen was over the moon!
