Year 5 enjoyed our visit to the library this week. We enjoyed spending time selecting and sharing new books. We enjoyed the opportunity to read for pleasure alongside each other.

Whilst we were there the children were able to share and recommend books they are currently reading or have just finished.

Dolcie is currently reading ‘Warriors: Forest of Secrets’ by Erin Hunter. ‘Warriors’ is a series of novels based on the adventures and drama of multiple Clans of feral cats. These books are popular amongst the class. Aysel is currently reading ‘Warriors: Into the Wild.’ The children enjoy talking about the series with each other and sharing books.

Ruben has recently finished reading ‘Horrid Henry’s: Krazy Ketchup’ by Francesca Simon. He recommends this story as it was an easy read and he said he finished it quite quickly. Ruben enjoyed sharing the story with others about how Horrid Henry managed to trick the babysitter and his family.

Lina has recently finished reading ‘Fing’ by David Walliams. She recommends this book to others as it was very funny. She described how it was about a very spoiled main character who always asks for ‘something’ but pronounces it ‘some-fing’. Eventually the ‘fing’ arrives and causes chaos – at one point it even eats her!

Jackson is a fan of Michael Morpurgo and has read many of his stories. He recommends ‘Running Wild’ by Michael Morpurgo. It is about a boy who gets swept up in a tsunami with only an elephant to help him survive. As he searches for help and other survivors, he meets a number of interesting characters along the way. Jackson said he enjoyed not knowing what would happen next and that it was a very adventurous story.

As a class we are currently reading ‘The Light Jar’ by Lisa Thompson. We are gripped by the story of Nate who has run away with his Mum to a tumble-down cottage only for his Mum to go missing after they have arrived. The children look forward to our REAL read sessions to find out more about what will happen to Nate and if Mum will return safely.

Miss Allen is currently reading ‘I believe in Unicorns’ by Michael Morpurgo. As a fan of his previous stories, Miss Allen is enjoying reading this book about a boy called Tomas who (she has so far discovered) hates school and hates stories!
