Year 5 thoroughly enjoyed celebrating World Book Day last week. The children embraced getting dressed up as their favourite characters and enjoyed sharing why they had chosen them. Children were dressed up as: Harry Potter, Oliver Twist, Horrid Henry, Mallory Towers, Agatha Parrot, Dennis the Menace, and our favourite footballing annual heroes. Miss Allen kept all of the children in line dressed as Professor Umbridge from the Harry Potter series.

For our first activity, we completed a 2p book challenge. We thought about our favourite books and captured the front cover or a scene from the story in miniature. We then glued them to our 2p coins. They will be displayed in our library. What books do you recognise?

Our next challenge was to create our own matchbox dioramas. We discussed books that we had enjoyed and why we enjoyed them. Then we planned our design for the front cover and inside. Next it was time to decorate them.

The finished dioramas look amazing. What stories do you recognise? What stories have you read?
