We had an amazing time celebrating World Book Day 2024! All of the children in Year 3 looked absolutely fantastic dressed up as some of their favourite characters from different stories. Can you tell who we were all dressed up as?

Cici – I dressed up as the Ladybird from the book, ‘What the Ladybird Heard’ because I really like insects. My favourite part of my outfit was my wings!

Amaya – I dressed up as Little Red Riding Hood because I like the story. I think it is interesting and that Little Red is really brave in it.

James – I dressed up as Greg from the book, ‘Diary of a Wimpy Kid’. I chose this character because I love the series of books that the author has written; they are really funny and Jordan recommended them to me!

We spent the morning listening to MC Grammar’s World Book Day Song. We challenged ourselves to list as many books as possible that were mentioned, but we found this quite tricky because the song is so fast! How many can you pick out? Listen here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZpTkjssrL4k

We also took part in the 2p Challenge! We had to trace round a 2p coin and then draw a miniature book cover inside the circle. After we were happy with our creations, we cut them out and stuck them onto the coins!

Arlo – The 2p Challenge was really hard because some books have really big pictures or words on them and you had to fit it on a 2p coin. I did the book, ‘The Dot’ because it was an easy design to copy. I also tried to draw ‘Ninja Nan’ because I liked the story about how at first she couldn’t complete something but by the end she does.

Zac- I liked how on each side of the coin I could draw my favourite book and I liked how I could colour and draw some books that I haven’t read but liked the front cover.

Zara – I liked the 2p challenge because I did good pictures. It wasn’t as tricky as I thought to draw that small!

In the afternoon, we completed an art project using wooden pegs. We had the task of transforming the boring looking wooden pegs into a story book character! Miss Rowlands helped us stick wool for hair and fabric for clothes on the pegs using the hot glue gun. We also had to complete the look with a backdrop – this could be either a scene from the story or the front cover of the book we had chosen. We think that they look fantastic and we had so much fun making them!

Bobby – I made a footballer called Harry Kane out of my wooden peg because I like the book I read about him and he is one of my favourite footballers.

Callie – I made a character called Katie out of my wooden peg. She is from a book called, ‘Baby Koala Rescue’. I really like koalas and Katie looks after one in the story. I found it tricky to draw the background for my peg character because I had to do careful sketches of trees and draw koalas.

Ricky – I liked designing the peg because it was calming and I had to try and make sure to include all of the details to make it look like the character! I made my peg into the character Draco Malfoy.
