Acorn children have been learning all about Ramadan. During Ramadan Muslims fast, or refrain, from eating and drinking, while it is light outside. Once the sun sets families meet for big meals, which may include, stew, rice, dates, water, lentils and more. Mrs Khanom explained how she wakes early in the morning and eats dates before her porridge and she drinks lots of water, which helps to set her up for the day. She then showed the children how she prayers and how she removes her shoes before stepping on her prayer mat. Some of the Acorn class chose to have a go of this too. Can you spot the beaded necklace? They are often used by Muslims for the tasbih, the recitation of prayers.

Some of the Acorn children while praying gave thanks to ‘friends, their families, the food they eat.’ These were very thoughtful, well done Acorn class.
