In History, Year 4 are currently learning about the Anglo-Saxons and the Scots.

In today’s lesson we recapped previous learning and discussed what we could remember about the Anglo-Saxons. The children really showcased their learning and what they knew about the Anglo-Saxons from our last lesson.

Matthew B – “I know that Anglo Saxons left their homelands because their villages kept flooding because they built their homes near rivers.”

Aran – “I know Anglo-Saxon houses were built from mud and animal dung and they had hay on their rooves.”

Ava-Lily – “The hall was owned by the Chief and it was the biggest house in the village.”

We know that the Anglo Saxons were a large tribe of people made up of the Jutes, Angles and Saxons. We had to use the atlas’s to help us label a map of the seven Kingdoms of Anglo-Saxon Britain.

We then discussed push and pull factors. Push factors are reasons why the Anglo-Saxons left their homelands and pull factors are reasons the Anglo-Saxons wanted to settle in Britain.

Here are some photographs of the children working hard to identify which of the statements were push factors and which were pull factors.

We had some fantastic work produced!
